Patients arriving at the reception desk of a modern health practice

No surprises on the way out, ever.

We submit claims to most open schemes on your behalf, and we check what you are covered for before your first appointment rather than after it. Every fee we charge is on this page.

How it works

What actually happens to your claim.

Stilwater Health is a cash practice that submits electronically on your behalf. In plain terms: we do the paperwork, and you settle whatever the scheme does not.

  1. You give us your details

Scheme, plan and membership number, either on the appointment form or at reception. We need the main member's details, not just yours.

  2. We check the benefit

Before your appointment we confirm what your plan covers for that discipline and roughly what is left in your day-to-day or savings benefit.

  3. We submit the claim

Electronically, on the day of your appointment. Most schemes respond within 48 hours.

  4. You settle the shortfall

Whatever the scheme does not pay — the difference between our fee and their rate, or the whole amount if your benefit is exhausted. You are told the likely figure up front.

Schemes

Administrators we submit to.

These are the schemes whose claims we file directly. If yours is not listed we can still see you — we issue an invoice with the correct tariff and ICD-10 codes and you claim it back yourself.

  • Discovery Health
  • Momentum
  • Bonitas
  • GEMS
  • Medihelp
  • Bestmed
  • Fedhealth
  • Profmed
  • Polmed
  • Sizwe Hosmed
  • Keyhealth
  • Medshield

Listing a scheme means we submit to that administrator. It is not a statement that your particular plan covers a particular treatment — that depends on your plan and your remaining benefits, which is exactly what reception checks before you come in.

All fees

Everything we charge, on one page.

Effective March 2026. Fees are per session and include any written plan or report that goes with it.

Questions we get weekly

The awkward ones, answered.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. Dietetics, physiotherapy and biokinetics are all first-contact professions in South Africa, which means you can book directly with us.

Some schemes pay more readily when there is a referral or a motivation letter on file, so if you already have one, bring it. If you do not, we can write to your GP after the assessment.

What if my savings are finished for the year?

Then the appointment is a cash consultation and you pay the published fee on the day. We will tell you this before you book, not afterwards.

Where a course of treatment is likely to run into the next benefit year, we will say so and help you plan the timing around it.

Will my scheme pay the whole fee?

Sometimes, and it depends entirely on your plan. Many schemes reimburse at a scheme rate that sits below what private practices charge; the difference is the shortfall, and it is yours to settle.

Gap cover, if you have it, is designed for exactly this and is usually claimed by you rather than by us.

Can you claim from my chronic benefit?

For some conditions, yes — several schemes fund dietetics and biokinetics from a chronic or disease-management benefit where a doctor has motivated for it. That is separate from your day-to-day savings and does not run out as quickly.

Reception will check whether that route is open to you and, if it is, tell you what your doctor needs to send.

Do you charge for a missed appointment?

Where less than 24 hours' notice is given, half the session fee. It is not claimable from a medical aid, so it comes out of your own pocket — which is why we send a reminder the day before.

What happens to my health information?

Your clinical notes stay with the practice and are not shared with anyone — including an employer who has paid for a wellness programme — without your written consent. Claims carry only the codes the scheme requires.

We keep records for the period the HPCSA requires and handle your information in line with POPIA.

Want your benefits checked before you commit?

Send us your scheme and plan name with your appointment request. Reception will come back with what you are likely to be covered for and what the shortfall should be.
