Biokineticist supervising a patient through a rehabilitation exercise

Exercise as treatment, properly supervised.

Biokinetics is the final phase of rehabilitation and the long-term management of chronic conditions through movement. It is what turns "the pain has gone" into "it has not come back".

What we work with

Two kinds of patient — rehab, and chronic.

Some people arrive here from the physiotherapy room next door. Others are sent by a GP or specialist to manage a long-term condition through structured exercise.

  • Post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation
  • ACL and knee reconstruction recovery
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff rehabilitation
  • Chronic lower back pain
  • Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance
  • Hypertension and cardiac rehabilitation
  • Osteoporosis and bone density
  • Osteoarthritis management
  • Balance and falls prevention
  • Return-to-sport testing
  • Pre-season screening for clubs
  • Workplace ergonomic assessment

If you are still in pain and have not been assessed, start with physiotherapy — biokinetics works best once the acute stage is behind you.

Your first appointment

Measured at the start, measured again later.

The first session is an hour of assessment: strength, range, balance, and where relevant a submaximal fitness test. Everything is written down, because the point of a baseline is to compare against it in eight weeks.

  • Bring your surgeon's or GP's notes. If you are post-operative, the surgical protocol tells Rushda what is safe to load and when — it saves a fortnight of guesswork.
  • Training clothes and closed shoes. The first session includes movement, not just talking. There is a change room and a shower.
  • A programme you can do elsewhere. Written for the equipment you actually have — a commercial gym, a home setup, or nothing but a resistance band.

Biokinetics fees

Published, and the same for everyone.

Biokinetics is covered by most schemes from a day-to-day benefit, and by some chronic-condition benefits where a GP has motivated for it.

Session blocks are not refundable but are transferable to another member of your household. How medical-aid billing works →

This page is information, not a diagnosis. Nothing here replaces an individual assessment by a registered practitioner, and no outcome is promised or implied. If you have a diagnosed cardiac condition, we will ask for clearance from your doctor before starting exercise testing.
