The Cellar
Seats 140 between the barrels, or 220 standing. Cool in February, warm in July, and the only space here that does not care what the weather does.

Klapmuts · Cape Winelands
A working wine farm below the Simonsberg, with four spaces to marry in and a cellar that seats a hundred and forty under the barrels. Twenty guests or two hundred.
The farm
Veldlicht has been under vine since 1798. Twenty-six hectares of it are still farmed — chenin on the cooler slopes, syrah where the ground turns to decomposed granite — and the cellar that presses them is the same room we lay the long tables in.
That order matters. We are not a venue with a vineyard attached for the photographs. Harvest happens whether or not there is a wedding that weekend, and the couples who book here tend to be the ones who like that.

Where you marry
Ceremony in one, dinner in another, and the walk between them is the part people remember. Full capacities and layouts are on the venue page.

The wine
Chenin, chardonnay, rosé, syrah, a cap classique and a straw wine that takes three weeks on reed mats. Every one of them grown, pressed and bottled on this farm.
You can order a case online and have it anywhere in the country inside four days — or collect it from the same cellar the long tables go in.
The estate
We looked at eleven farms. This was the only one where the person showing us round was also the person who would be there on the day.
