On this floor since 1998
A trading store on the R44 at Klapmuts. Hand-knotted rugs and homeware at the front, cured meat, cheese and bread at the back. Everything you can see here is on the floor today.
Three parts of one shop
The front room is a gallery. The back is a counter. Between them is everything that makes a house feel lived in.

Why the prices look like that
Every rug on this floor was chosen in person and shipped by us. Nothing sits in a distributor's warehouse first. That is the whole reason a piece that would carry a five-figure mark-up elsewhere sits here at what it sits at.
The back of the shop
Cheese off the wheel, coppa sliced while you wait, bread out of the oven by half past seven. Nothing is cut in advance and nothing sits under a light all day.
Ring ahead on a Saturday. It is the one morning the queue reaches the rugs.
What people say
They sent three runners home with us and did not once ask when we would decide. The one we kept is still the best thing in the passage.
I came for biltong and left with a jug. That is the shop in one sentence. The alpine cheese is worth the detour on its own.
They cleaned a rug my grandmother brought over in 1961 and did not try to sell me a replacement. That is why we keep going back.
Fourteen Bergstroom Road, off the R44 at Klapmuts. Parking at the door, and the kettle is usually on.
Demonstration site. Wagenmakers Trading Co. is a fictional business created to show what a Travers & Co. retail website looks like. Photography, reviews, stock, prices and contact details are all placeholders. The list works, but sending it only opens WhatsApp — no payment is taken and no card details are asked for.
